Santorini in a day is a long day, and worth every hour. The fast ferry crosses the Aegean in about two hours and drops you under the caldera cliffs, where the whitewashed villages stack up like sugar cubes above a drowned volcano.

You get time in both Oia and Fira, a caldera cruise option, and the crossing back as the sun goes down over the sea.

Frequently asked questions

How long is the ferry crossing?

About two hours each way on the high-speed ferry. Seats are assigned and there is a café on board.

I get seasick - should I still go?

Take a tablet an hour before boarding and sit mid-ship on the lower deck. In strong meltemi wind the crossing can be lively; we will tell you honestly the evening before.

Do we see the sunset in Oia?

Not on the standard day trip - the return ferry leaves before sunset, but you watch it from the deck, which is arguably better.

Can the trip be cancelled?

Yes, if the port authority cancels sailings for wind. You get a full refund or another date.
