Car on a coastal road in Crete
RENTAL POLICY

Rental terms & conditions

These are the rules of a Minu Kreeta car rental, written the way we would explain them to you at the airport. They apply to the person paying for the rental and to every driver named in the rental agreement - everyone named is jointly responsible for the amounts due. Nobody outside the agreement may drive the car.

Booking a car

A booking is for a specific model, not a vague category.

  • You get the model you picked. The only thing that may differ is the colour.
  • Rental days run on a 24-hour clock from your pick-up time.
  • The shortest rental is one day (24 hours).
  • You can ask to change a confirmed booking at any time - we check availability and confirm what is possible.
02 / 16

Payment

Nothing is hidden and nothing surprises you at the desk.

  • No prepayment and no deposit: you pay the full rental when you receive the car.
  • You can pay by card, bank transfer or cash in euros at hand-over.
  • With full insurance (FCDW, zero excess) there is no card hold at pick-up.
  • Because FCDW + WUG is always included, we never pre-authorise an excess on your card. A card is only needed if you specifically ask for a package with an excess.

Delivery & collection

  • We deliver and collect around the clock at every location in our booking system - airport, port, hotel.
  • For a place outside the list, ask us in advance; some areas carry an extra charge, always shown in the price you get.
  • Deliveries and collections between 23:30 and 07:00 may carry a night surcharge, also included in the price you are quoted.
04 / 16

Driver age, licence and documents

  • Minimum driver age is 18 for every category; maximum rental age is 82.
  • Drivers under 21 (young driver) or over 75 (senior driver) pay a small surcharge that depends on the car and the number of days.
  • There is no minimum time since your licence was issued.
  • At pick-up every driver shows a valid driving licence plus ID card or passport. Copies and phone photos are not accepted.

Additional drivers

Sharing the wheel on a Cretan road trip is a good idea - and it costs very little.

  • Up to 4 drivers can be written into one rental agreement.
  • Each additional driver is added for a small extra fee, according to our current price list. Ask us and you get the exact amount before you book.
  • Only drivers named in the agreement are insured. If someone not on the contract drives and something happens, no insurance applies.

Insurance - what is always included

Every Minu Kreeta rental, whichever package you choose, carries these covers.

  • Third-party insurance for damage caused without your fault.
  • Public liability up to €1,300,000 for death and bodily injury and €1,300,000 for material damage.
  • Personal liability: the driver is insured up to €15,000; passengers are covered up to €1,300,000 for death or bodily injury, even when the accident was the driver's own fault.
  • Every price we quote already includes FCDW full insurance and WUG - tyres, undercarriage, glass and mirrors with €0 excess. There is nothing to upgrade and no hidden insurance extra.

Insurance levels explained

  • CDW is the market baseline elsewhere (excess €500-€3,000). We do not sell it on its own - our rates start above it, at FCDW + WUG.
  • FCDW (included in every price): damage you cause is covered with €0 excess, no card pre-authorisation is needed, and theft and fire protection are included.
  • WUG (also included in every price): adds tyres, undercarriage, glass and mirrors with €0 excess. Undercarriage cover does not apply if the car was driven off asphalt.
  • NDW: no damage waiver at all - you carry the full repair cost. Only by specific agreement.
  • Theft protection covers the vehicle itself; personal belongings left inside (bags, phones) are never insured.
  • Fire insurance covers damage from fire, lightning or explosion.

When insurance does not apply

  • Damage to the interior - upholstery, seats, dashboard, screen - is not covered by any package unless it happened in an accident.
  • The driver must be registered in the contract for any cover to work.
  • Damage caused under the influence of alcohol or drugs is never covered.
  • The car is for legal, asphalt roads only; off-road driving voids cover.
  • Tell us immediately after any accident - we cannot process a report you make for the first time when handing back the keys.
  • We may claim the repair cost from you for damage caused off-road, by breaking parking rules, in any race or speed test, by an unregistered driver, under alcohol or drugs, or by wilful and reckless use (wind-blown doors, clutch and gearbox abuse, interior damage, damage caused by animals).

Fuel and mileage

  • Unlimited mileage is in every rate - drive the whole island if you like.
  • You get the car with a full tank and bring it back full.
  • Missing fuel is charged at cost plus a €10 refuelling fee.
10 / 16

Traffic fines

  • Tell us straight away about any fine received during the rental.
  • Administrative fines are settled when the car is returned.
  • If we are not told in time, or the fine only surfaces later, additional handling charges may apply.
11 / 16

Roadside assistance & replacement car

  • Roadside assistance is free and available 24/7 - call our office first, it is usually the fastest route.
  • Assistance is valid on Crete; outside the island transport costs are yours.
  • If the car has an accident, breakdown or damage that is not your fault, we replace it within 24 hours, anywhere on Crete.
12 / 16

Taking the car on a ferry

  • A ferry trip needs our approval in advance, because it requires different insurance.
  • The surcharge is €35 to €90 per ferry route, depending on the car.
  • Our cars carry a telematics unit. If a car boards a ferry without permission, we may charge double the normal ferry fee.
13 / 16

Looking after the car

  • Return the interior in the condition you got it. Deep biological cleaning (soaked or heavily soiled seats and carpets) costs €100 to €150.
  • Smoking inside the car is strictly forbidden; a lingering smell costs €150.
  • Repairable tyre: fix it at the nearest tyre shop - WUG is included, so on asphalt we refund the cost. Replacement is covered too. Only off-road driving voids it.
  • Lost or damaged keys cost €250 to replace; retrieving keys locked inside the car costs €100 to €200 depending on where the car is.
  • Watch the dashboard warning lights and act on them. No modifications or mechanical work without our written approval.
14 / 16

Cancellation, extension and return times

  • Cancelling is free - since nothing is paid in advance, there is nothing to refund.
  • Let us know as early as you can if plans change, so the car can go to someone else.
  • Extending: contact us and we check whether the car is free - if it is already booked, we may have to say no.
  • Returning early does not create a refund for the unused days.
  • Returning late without telling us is treated as unlawful use of the vehicle and may be reported to the authorities; an extra day at the normal rate plus a penalty may be charged per day.
