Is this the right car for you?

Driving experience: Higher seating gives a much better view over the stone walls that line most Cretan roads, and the extra torque removes the strain on climbs.
Luggage advice: Two large cases plus cabin bags. The square boot swallows beach gear and a cool box without Tetris.
Road suitability: Confident on every paved road on the island, including the rougher asphalt in the south.
Mountain roads: The best choice for Anogeia, Zaros, the Lasithi plateau and long climbs. Note: off-road driving and the Balos gravel track remain strictly forbidden.
Family suitability: Comfortable for four adults or a family of four with real luggage. Child seats available for a small extra fee.
Fuel economy: Moderate. Hybrid versions stay close to a small car in town and only drink on long climbs.

Does 4x4 mean I can drive to Balos?

No. The Balos track is off-limits under every rental contract on the island. Take the boat from Kissamos - it is a better day anyway.

Is there really no deposit?
